Grade 11 Camp

with 1 Comment

What a wonderful week with the grade 11s at Mount Moresby Adventure Camp!

We paddled across Mosquito Lake in kayaks and canoes, camped out for the night and climbed Mosquito Mountain where we got views all the way to the ocean. One group even saw humpback whales breaching from the top of the peak!

We made nature art in the forest!

We watched Stu’s famous deer dissection and smoked some of the meat!

We learned knots while we built a trebuchet.

We collected insects, learned about lichen and mosses, hiked and swam and caught coho. We had a fire each night (sometimes even under the stars!)

Aaaaand we went mushroom-picking for chanterelles (which Haida Gwaii is famous for).

I’m now back to almost full-time work as a teacher-on-call in schools, telling nature stories and getting students outside where I can. Surf and storm season are here and I’m enjoying the earlier darkness and reading time!
